XBox 360 drops to 5th place

I had resigned myself to the thought that Microsoft was on its way to dominating the console gaming market, but according to Ars Technica, that may not be the case:

Having been surpassed by the PSP, the Xbox 360 sat in fifth place for June, having only moved 219,800 systems. Combined with the fact that the 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV has fallen completely off the top ten list, Microsoft’s sales seem less than stellar.

Surpassed by the lowly PSP? Yikes. Maybe XBox Vista will have better luck.

Hey, don’t be dissing XBox Vista. It is going to have a huge release. And, after SP1 you’ll be able to downgrade back to the XBox 360.

I know XBox Vista is going to have a huge release. I’m sure you guys are working hard to release it as soon as possible to motivate 360 sales. :D

It’s a great few years when both Apple and Nintendo flip markets on their backs. No company is perfect, but both Apple and Nintendo produce stuff that changes how people think, stuff that is just plain fun. A year later I still feel like a kid when I play Wii games and I still get that cool-new-tech feeling when using the iPod touch.

I love my PSP. Give one a shot – try out Loco Roco and Patapon.

You’re definitely underestimating the PSP Allen, it is in fact a very cool device and I second Dan on Loco Roco and Patapon (which I got free when I bought my new one this week). Especially awesome? The Remote Play features to connect to the PS3. I can access most of the functions of the PS3 via wireless connection anywhere in the world, play PS1 games, stream video and music from TVersity running on my PC, etc on my little handheld. If I was so inclined I could then go on and hook an adapter from the slim-and-lite PSP into a full size TV.

Also there’s Skype on it now – I imagine the next generation of the PSP will probably be more akin to an iPhone with the feature set that Sony’s slowly been adding in firmware patches.

Well, I’ll make the point of asking to try it out next time someone I know with a PSP is around (although other than you two I’m not sure who that is.)

What do you think?
